This ship is transporting damaged equipment from the 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team 2nd Infantry for repair and further deployment. Community members, anti-port militarization activists and others from the peace and justice community of Washington and Oregon will descend on the Tacoma Federal Courthouse, 1713 Pacific Avenue, everyday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm to demand the withdrawal of the military from this port. These peaceful, family friendly vigils will continue everyday until the equipment is gone. Others intend to quarantine the equipment in the Port. Demonstrators site a variety of new and exciting tactics to be used in opposition of the military use of this public port. "We hope to create safe space for all to voice their opposition to these crimes against peace and to resist the use of public lands to enable a bloody occupation," says Olympia Port Militarization Resistance member Patty Imani. Many demonstrators oppose the use of their community as a "revolving door" for military equipment that is being used to commit war crimes. Tacoma, the larger community, and the world asserts that this war violates international law as defined by the Nuremberg Charter and Principles. In the past, similar peaceful Port Militarization Resistance demonstrations have been met with overwhelming police violence. Police have illegally used chemical weapons and "less than lethal weapons" on people whose only crime was to attempt to uphold international law. In March of 2007, this equipment left the Port of Tacoma for Iraq. Resisters sought to prevent the material from leaving, in hopes that this would prevent the deployment of troops. Through the use of enormous and unnecessary violence, police eventually cleared a path for this equipment to board the ship. There were 37 arrests. Quebec police admit they went undercover at Montebello protest
From CBC News - Friday, August 24, 2007 Police came under fire Tuesday, when a video surfaced on YouTUBE that appeared to show three plainclothes police officers at the protest with bandannas across their faces. One of the men was carrying a rock. Police said the three were told to monitor protesters who were not peacefully demonstrating to prevent any violent incidents, but they were called out as undercover agents when they refused to throw objects.
If you watch the video, you can clearly see that the plainclothes police officers were there to do ANYTHING BUT "prevent any violent incidents"!!!
As you can CLEARLY see from the video, the officers are the ones with the LARGE ROCK and the protesters are the ones DEMANDING that they PUT DOWN THE ROCK! What a bunch of LIES! The War as We Saw It (from the troops in Iraq)
From The New York Times - Sunday, August 19, 2007 By Op-Ed Contributors -- BUDDHIKA JAYAMAHA, WESLEY D. SMITH, JEREMY ROEBUCK, OMAR MORA, EDWARD SANDMEIER, YANCE T. GRAY and JEREMY A. MURPHY Baghdad VIEWED from Iraq at the tail end of a 15-month deployment, the political debate in Washington is indeed surreal. Counterinsurgency is, by definition, a competition between insurgents and counterinsurgents for the control and support of a population. To believe that Americans, with an occupying force that long ago outlived its reluctant welcome, can win over a recalcitrant local population and win this counterinsurgency is far-fetched. As responsible infantrymen and noncommissioned officers with the 82nd Airborne Division soon heading back home, we are skeptical of recent press coverage portraying the conflict as increasingly manageable and feel it has neglected the mounting civil, political and social unrest we see every day. (Obviously, these are our personal views and should not be seen as official within our chain of command.) The claim that we are increasingly in control of the battlefields in Iraq is an assessment arrived at through a flawed, American-centered framework. Yes, we are militarily superior, but our successes are offset by failures elsewhere. What soldiers call the "battle space" remains the same, with changes only at the margins. It is crowded with actors who do not fit neatly into boxes: Sunni extremists, Al Qaeda terrorists, Shiite militiamen, criminals and armed tribes. This situation is made more complex by the questionable loyalties and Janus-faced role of the Iraqi police and Iraqi Army, which have been trained and armed at United States taxpayers' expense. A few nights ago, for example, we witnessed the death of one American soldier and the critical wounding of two others when a lethal armor-piercing explosive was detonated between an Iraqi Army checkpoint and a police one. Local Iraqis readily testified to American investigators that Iraqi police and Army officers escorted the triggermen and helped plant the bomb. These civilians highlighted their own predicament: had they informed the Americans of the bomb before the incident, the Iraqi Army, the police or the local Shiite militia would have killed their families. As many grunts will tell you, this is a near-routine event. Reports that a majority of Iraqi Army commanders are now reliable partners can be considered only misleading rhetoric. The truth is that battalion commanders, even if well meaning, have little to no influence over the thousands of obstinate men under them, in an incoherent chain of command, who are really loyal only to their militias. Similarly, Sunnis, who have been underrepresented in the new Iraqi armed forces, now find themselves forming militias, sometimes with our tacit support. Sunnis recognize that the best guarantee they may have against Shiite militias and the Shiite-dominated government is to form their own armed bands. We arm them to aid in our fight against Al Qaeda. However, while creating proxies is essential in winning a counterinsurgency, it requires that the proxies are loyal to the center that we claim to support. Armed Sunni tribes have indeed become effective surrogates, but the enduring question is where their loyalties would lie in our absence. The Iraqi government finds itself working at cross purposes with us on this issue because it is justifiably fearful that Sunni militias will turn on it should the Americans leave. In short, we operate in a bewildering context of determined enemies and questionable allies, one where the balance of forces on the ground remains entirely unclear. (In the course of writing this article, this fact became all too clear: one of us, Staff Sergeant Murphy, an Army Ranger and reconnaissance team leader, was shot in the head during a "time-sensitive target acquisition mission" on Aug. 12; he is expected to survive and is being flown to a military hospital in the United States.) While we have the will and the resources to fight in this context, we are effectively hamstrung because realities on the ground require measures we will always refuse -- namely, the widespread use of lethal and brutal force. Given the situation, it is important not to assess security from an American-centered perspective. The ability of, say, American observers to safely walk down the streets of formerly violent towns is not a resounding indicator of security. What matters is the experience of the local citizenry and the future of our counterinsurgency. When we take this view, we see that a vast majority of Iraqis feel increasingly insecure and view us as an occupation force that has failed to produce normalcy after four years and is increasingly unlikely to do so as we continue to arm each warring side. Coupling our military strategy to an insistence that the Iraqis meet political benchmarks for reconciliation is also unhelpful. The morass in the government has fueled impatience and confusion while providing no semblance of security to average Iraqis. Leaders are far from arriving at a lasting political settlement. This should not be surprising, since a lasting political solution will not be possible while the military situation remains in constant flux. The Iraqi government is run by the main coalition partners of the Shiite-dominated United Iraqi Alliance, with Kurds as minority members. The Shiite clerical establishment formed the alliance to make sure its people did not succumb to the same mistake as in 1920: rebelling against the occupying Western force (then the British) and losing what they believed was their inherent right to rule Iraq as the majority. The qualified and reluctant welcome we received from the Shiites since the invasion has to be seen in that historical context. They saw in us something useful for the moment. Now that moment is passing, as the Shiites have achieved what they believe is rightfully theirs. Their next task is to figure out how best to consolidate the gains, because reconciliation without consolidation risks losing it all. Washington's insistence that the Iraqis correct the three gravest mistakes we made -- de-Baathification, the dismantling of the Iraqi Army and the creation of a loose federalist system of government -- places us at cross purposes with the government we have committed to support. Political reconciliation in Iraq will occur, but not at our insistence or in ways that meet our benchmarks. It will happen on Iraqi terms when the reality on the battlefield is congruent with that in the political sphere. There will be no magnanimous solutions that please every party the way we expect, and there will be winners and losers. The choice we have left is to decide which side we will take. Trying to please every party in the conflict -- as we do now -- will only ensure we are hated by all in the long run. At the same time, the most important front in the counterinsurgency, improving basic social and economic conditions, is the one on which we have failed most miserably. Two million Iraqis are in refugee camps in bordering countries. Close to two million more are internally displaced and now fill many urban slums. Cities lack regular electricity, telephone services and sanitation. "Lucky" Iraqis live in gated communities barricaded with concrete blast walls that provide them with a sense of communal claustrophobia rather than any sense of security we would consider normal. In a lawless environment where men with guns rule the streets, engaging in the banalities of life has become a death-defying act. Four years into our occupation, we have failed on every promise, while we have substituted Baath Party tyranny with a tyranny of Islamist, militia and criminal violence. When the primary preoccupation of average Iraqis is when and how they are likely to be killed, we can hardly feel smug as we hand out care packages. As an Iraqi man told us a few days ago with deep resignation, "We need security, not free food." In the end, we need to recognize that our presence may have released Iraqis from the grip of a tyrant, but that it has also robbed them of their self-respect. They will soon realize that the best way to regain dignity is to call us what we are -- an army of occupation -- and force our withdrawal. Until that happens, it would be prudent for us to increasingly let Iraqis take center stage in all matters, to come up with a nuanced policy in which we assist them from the margins but let them resolve their differences as they see fit. This suggestion is not meant to be defeatist, but rather to highlight our pursuit of incompatible policies to absurd ends without recognizing the incongruities. We need not talk about our morale. As a member of the U.S. House on the Homeland Security Committee, DeFazio, D-Ore., is permitted to enter a secure "bubbleroom" in the Capitol and examine classified material. So he asked the White House to see the secret documents. On Wednesday, DeFazio got his answer: DENIED. "I just can't believe they're going to deny a member of Congress the right of reviewing how they plan to conduct the government of the United States after a significant terrorist attack," DeFazio says. Homeland Security Committee staffers told his office that the White House initially approved his request, but it was later quashed. DeFazio doesn't know who did it or why. "We're talking about the continuity of the government of the United States of America," DeFazio says. "I would think that would be relevant to any member of Congress, let alone a member of the Homeland Security Committee." Bush administration spokesman Trey Bohn declined to say why DeFazio was denied access: "We do not comment through the press on the process that this access entails. It is important to keep in mind that much of the information related to the continuity of government is highly sensitive." You must decide, in a very short time, if you value the lives of not only your spouse, your children, relatives, friends and neighbors; but also the lives of other people living in American and around the world that you have never met. You must also ask yourself if you value the suffrage and loss of life that many, many people before us have sacrificed in order to uphold the Constitution of the United States and to defend our democratic process and values. What you must decide is if the lives of these people are important enough to make sure that Bush and his followers cannot achieve their dreams of empire. The desires for world domination are unmistakably their motivations. Leaving very little to the imagination, seeing their plot performed before our very eyes is like reading a poorly written fiction. For they are all around us, so abundant and clear, one must be very naive and ignorant to not see the signs of tyranny encroaching upon every aspect of our lives. If you value your freedoms to live, work, travel, raise your family and most importantly, to be free without fear; to be able to accomplish your dreams, then it is time to make this decision. As George W. Bush himself once said, "Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists." Granted, they can't control everyone in their structure, but the major headlines/features you see in the major newspapers and on networks have been filtered by agents of the corporate/political elite. All major news agencies have top brass belonging to the Council on Foreign Relations. If you are not familiar with the history and agenda of the socialist power house known as the Council on Foreign Relations, I suggest a book called "The Shadows of Power" by James Perloff. This group is the hidden arm behind American Foreign policy and they seek nothing less than the total destruction of the American Republic and the creation of a socialist system / world government. *** Step Three: EDUCATE OTHERS Create a website/ myspace/ have email lists/call into radio shows, etc. Don't be afraid to engage people, old and young in this points. Talk to your family. Get some of the many DVDs out there on the subjects and copy them and pass them out. I, for one, will be at Ground Zero on Sept 11th with the NY 911 Truth Movement to help educate the public and 'get in the way' of the media coverage who has almost totally ignored the work of the movement. *** Final Point: The 2 dominant motto's used in the game by those who wish to manipulate and control is 1) Divide and Conquer 2) Order out of Chaos -Divide and Conquer- They try to get people at odds with each other in order to keep people distracted and to prevent unity. The duality put forth by religion, exploited by governments, in the general form of GOOD vs EVIL, is a farce. There is no good- There is no evil. There are only degrees of operating "with the current of nature" or "against the current of nature" and when you understand that the 'collective consciousness' is no different in structure than your 'personal consciousness' in that the whole of the species undergoes social 'conflicts of interest', just as an individual battles personal 'conflicts of interests'(pertaining to arrogance/stubbornness/ poor temperaments, etc) you can understand that the battle against the Elite is a macrocosm of your own PERSONAL internal battle dealing with your own misguided feelings of superiority, arrogance and the like. Therefor, change in many ways starts with increased self-awareness and thus the removal of the ego based elitism that we all at one time or another share. No one is better then anyone else. Period. We are all the same. We are also One. - Order out of Chaos- This is simple. They create problems, instill unrest, then push forward their agenda disguised as a change in the best interest of the public. 911; Katrina; the War on Drugs:; Global Warming; Terrorism in general, Iraqi insurgents, Immigration, Inflation... are all used to whatever advantage they can muster up. The more real or fabricated problems that arise, the faster the elite can reposition power. [I.E. After WW1, we had the "League of Nations". After WWII, we had the United Nations; After WWIII, we will likely have a full on One World Government.] In my opinion, the criminal elements behind the US/UK administration want nothing less than World War, as it will be the ultimate "shake up" of things to get their agenda into full swing. *** I want to thank ALL of you for your interest.
